Macan Tidur
Arts - Antiques - TextileSourcing specialist on the island of Bali.
Welcome

It all began in 1995 with a small shop in Ubud selling old Indonesian textiles and cultural artefacts. The shop had no name, only an enigmatic logo with a tiger sleeping under an umbrella. Locals started calling it macan tidur, which means "sleeping tiger" in Indonesian, and the name stuck.
Since its kittenish beginnings, this sleeping tiger has grown into an eclectic collection of arts enterprises on the Island of Bali.

About

The principals of Macan Tidur are Susi Johnston and Bruno Piazza. Each brings idiosyncratic talents to the mix. Susi is an art historian, scholar of architecture, author, blogger, and an expert on Indonesian textiles. Bruno, an Italian from Milan, was a fashion and lifestyle photographer, then turned his acute eye to art, and is now a respected dealer in tribal art, antiquities and ornament. They both design and build and travel and are inordinately fond of lively discussion.
Macan Tidur's clients include collectors, connoisseurs, designers, architects, hotels, clubs, museums, galleries and astute eccentrics. Their sourcing and custom work is in scads of interiors magazines and books. The shops have been lauded by the picky LUXE guides, Travel & Leisure, Town & Country, Tropical Living, Bali Chic, and the Yak, Bali's premier lifestyle mag. Macan Tidur is often cited in writing as "the best shop in Bali".
